Katy Perry: The Blue-Eyed Champion

“Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero.”

These lines from Katy’s song “Roar” sure describe without fail her timeline in Hollywood. Katy is one of the strongest and most influential women in the industry.
Katheryn Elizabeth “Katy” Hudson is a daughter of pastor parents. Raised in a deeply religious family, her first experience of performing was singing in the church. At the age of 15, Katy’s passion for singing burned in her heart and she badly wanted to go to Hollywood to try her luck.
Unfortunately, her parents, being servants of the church, was strongly against the idea. But the fire burning in Katy’s heart cannot simply be extinguished, so she decided to run away from home and went to Las Vegas. When her parents learned of this, they were demented. They automatically labeled Katy as the black sheep among their children and threatened to disown her. Luckily, Katy’s two siblings were caring and loving ones and continued supporting Katy.
Katy’s road to success wasn’t shiny and smooth; it was rough and full of boulders. But even though Katy’s parents labeled her as the odd one, God never left her side. The success earned by Katy after many years of perseverance was proof of this.

Katy’s popularity topped the charts after the release of her controversial song “I Kissed a Girl”. Although this raised the eyebrows of her parents, the song proved a smash, hitting the number one spot in several countries. Furthermore, when her single “Last Friday Night” from her hit album “Teenage Dream” went number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2011, the album became only the second album after Michael Jackson’s “Bad” to generate five number one singles. Katy became the first ever female artist to achieve this feat.
Over the years, Katy proved to be anything but ordinary. She became known in the industry for her trademark contralto vocal range, colorful wigs and outfits. She graced several magazines covers as one of the most desirable women of the century. She even had lunch with First Lady Michelle Obama on her 28th birthday. Furthermore, she became engaged and married with famous British actor and comedian Russel Brand in 2009. Between their engagement and marriage, Katy’s happiness was transparent and can be seen in the way her eyes sparkled.
Unfortunately, life proved yet again that you can’t have everything. In 2011, Russel filed a divorce against Katy. Katy was devastated. Everyone saw how broken Katy was and her fans hated that period of time.
Eventually, she moved on. Little by little, the bubbly Katy came back to life with the help of her family, friends and fans. People celebrated Katy’s coming back to life and Katy’s success skyrocketed even higher.
If there’s anything to learn from Katy’s story, it is to stay strong no matter how huge are the challenges that crosses your path because there will always be someone at your side cheering you forward, whether it be a family, a friend, a fan or even the superior being himself.
